Allison Crank

Allison Crank is a designer and researcher. Based in Paris, she works at the intersection of architecture, immersive technology, and intelligent systems.

She studied architecture at Wellesley College (magna cum laude) and at MIT. She later completed graduate degrees at Design Academy Eindhoven (cum laude) and EPFL.

She is the founder of Crank Studio, a practice devoted to luxury and emotional technology, crafting experiences where design feels precise, human, and alive.

She has collaborated with National Geographic, Google, Meta, MIT, La Biennale di Venezia, and Dreamscape, and designed for houses such as Audemars Piguet.

Her work spans XR, AI-driven interfaces, spatial computing,and narrative systems. She helped lead IMPULSE, an Emmy-nominated mixed-reality experience about ADHD, perception, and neurodiversity. Her projects have been presented at Venice, Cannes, Tribeca, and Annecy.

She has led platforms including LazyBrain, Pix.T, and Polaris, and designed culture-care systems for hospitals and museums, where movement, music, and story support recovery.

She teaches at HSLU in Lucerne and at the Architectural Association Visiting School in Melbourne, and mentors at the Venice VR College. Her research has appeared in Leonardo (MIT Press) and her practice has been profiled by XRMust.

Previously Head of Digital Experiences at wowl, and Design Researcher at the EPFL+ECAL Lab, she worked on the UNESCO-recognized Montreux Jazz digital archive and public-facing installations.

She lives in Paris with Pixel, her pomeranian dog. She designs for how people feel, move, and make meaning in complex, hybrid worlds.
